here is the original design before I changed the angle for the letters on the previous one I posted ,.. two hrs to mill and I used a old brokin bit! I tried this to see if it would mill at this angle ...came out good! I milled it with the stone design left in on purpose

what kind of bit did you use?
what speed?
sometimes I mill these type of rings in 2 pieces. I take the top off and mll as a 2 sided flat. Then assemble in the wax or sometimes in metal. I get better detail on the letters this way.

I used an old bit I broke it was 10 deg. something... the very tip broke off but I still use it for experiments... I ran it at 1000 feed 15000 rpm that's probably too fast off a spindle rpm speed
I was just testing to see how it would mill as a one piece or if it was even possible the next one I will try is as two halves (hollow core) then assemble and rotary
not that I want to make class rings or anything but now I know I can, and I guess that was one thing I always wanted to know how to do with this cad/cam stuff |

| that was done as a rotary milling only, 1pass, with an old brokin bit (which I have a small collection of) ,using the screw fixture for milling |

Pat, it is that time of year... kids buying their class rings. I have been working on one for my son. I'll post when complete. _________________ Steve Fanelty

| Hey Pat I believe you had a tutorial for this class ring on your site at one point. I was wondering if you still had it or if I might find it some place. I have a few issues remembering how it was done and for some reason it's not comming back to me. I must be getting old. |

I'll have to look that up, maybe I can make a small video in several parts
and post it for you that shows a different aproach to the subject ...I don't run (or ruin )my site anymore as it was too much time... but if you go on ken's site you'll probably find some tutorials already made on how to make a class ring, let me know if you get a good one!... you can find sergios video tut if you go to artc miami jlry under graduation ring it a good place to start... _________________ roland mdx-40, mdx 15

I think he meant how to design a class ring (not mill, although helpful) _________________ roland mdx-40, mdx 15

There was no designing in that pdf. He's mainly showing how to get the detail cuttings sharper than just doing a rotary.
